Honoring Service and Transformation: A Veterans Spotlight on Greta Spitz Densham

At Transformation Systems Inc. (TSi), we believe that leadership, service, and transformation are deeply connected. During Veterans Month, we are proud to honor the men and women on our team who have served our nation—and continue to serve through their work, leadership, and commitment to others.

This week, we’re proud to spotlight Greta Spitz Densham, a member of the TSi team whose 24-year Navy career shaped not only her approach to leadership but also her passion for helping others grow.

From Sea to Service: A 24-Year Journey in the U.S. Navy

Greta served as a Surface Warfare Officer in the United States Navy for 24 years, leading teams across the globe—from the Western Pacific and the Baltic Sea to South and Central America. The first half of her career followed a traditional surface warfare path aboard destroyers and frigates, while the second half focused on training, education, and leadership development.

Her career culminated with command of Naval Beach Unit 7 in Sasebo, Japan, where she led a forward-deployed amphibious team supporting Seventh Fleet operations. Later, she served at the U.S. Naval Academy, overseeing professional development and summer training programs designed to prepare midshipmen for leadership in the fleet.

“I didn’t fully understand the meaning of service when I entered the Naval Academy,” Greta reflected. “It was through the people I served with—their leadership, professionalism, and mentorship—that I learned what it truly means to serve.”

Lessons That Last

Throughout her career, Greta embraced the value of communication, teamwork, and accountability. One lesson that continues to guide her today came from a senior officer:

“An email sent is not an email received.”

This reminder to follow up, confirm understanding, and ensure alignment became a cornerstone of her leadership philosophy—one she carries into her work at TSi. “It’s about building trust,” she said. “Making sure your team feels heard and connected makes all the difference.”

Navigating Transition: From the Navy to TSi

Like many veterans, Greta’s transition from military to civilian life came with both challenges and opportunities. “The biggest challenge was translating my experience into language that made sense in the commercial world,” she said. “Operations in the Navy looks very different from operations in business.”

Through mentorship and organizations like the Commit Foundation, Blue Water Advisors, and the USNA Alumni Association, Greta built a roadmap for her next chapter—one grounded in purpose, learning, and community. That journey ultimately led her to Transformation Systems Inc.

“I was drawn to TSi because of the people,” Greta shared. “From the very first meeting, there was synergy. It felt like reconnecting with old friends. I also loved the kind of work TSi was doing and the energy the team had for new opportunities.”

Shared Values: Service and the Science of Transformation

Greta sees a strong connection between her military experience and TSi’s mission—The Science of Transformation.

“In the Navy, you’re constantly developing people and improving systems—whether through training, leadership development, or process improvement,” she said. “At TSi, we’re doing the same thing: integrating people and systems to create real change. It’s about understanding how to motivate teams, adapt to challenges, and continuously grow.”

She also believes veterans bring unique strengths to TSi’s culture. “We bring context from our service, strong networks, and a deep sense of responsibility to the communities we support,” Greta said. “For many of us, our customers are still the people we served alongside. That connection drives us to deliver exceptional results.”

Continuing to Serve

Even after retiring from the Navy, Greta remains deeply involved in service—this time within her local community. She mentors transitioning veterans, supports organizations like the Severn Leadership Group and MOAA, and volunteers with the Walk the Walk Foundation, where she helped organize a neighborhood backpack drive for local students.

“Service doesn’t end when you take off the uniform,” Greta said. “Now, it looks like giving back to the community, mentoring others, and being present for my family. It’s about finding new ways to serve and make a difference.”

Words to Lead and Live By

When asked what she’s most proud of, Greta didn’t hesitate: “That I honored my commitments and left every command better than I found it. I’m proud that my oldest daughter is inspired to serve and that I was able to build a career while being a wife, mother, daughter, and friend.”

Her advice to transitioning service members is simple but profound:

“Take time to imagine the life you want, and don’t be afraid to say no. You’ve spent a career saying yes—now’s the time to pause and design what’s next.”

And when it comes to guiding principles, Greta carries one powerful reminder with her every day:

“It simply begins, ‘I am.’
I am capable. I am strong. I am true. I am a good wife and mother. Whatever I need at the time—it’s there.”

At TSi, we’re honored to have veterans like Greta Spitz Densham on our team—leaders who continue to serve, inspire, and drive transformation through their dedication, empathy, and example.
