TSI’s Feed to LeadSM Program

Nourishing Leadership Potential in Our Community

The mission of TSI’s Feed to Lead Program is to nourish the body, mind and spirit by supporting leadership potential in local youth.   In the past, through Feed to Lead, TSI has donated funds to fight hunger, scholarships for education and school supplies to needy children.  And the TSI team has devoted time and energy to these causes.  In 2011, TSI will support the following organizations to help make a difference in developing leadership potential in underserved communities.

Equal Footing Foundation and KISS Institute for Practical Robotics – Botball Tournament
In 2011, TSI is donating funds to the KISS Institute for Practical Robotics to support participation of Equal Footing Foundation (EFF) Clubhouses in the DC Botball Tournament. Being a small company of scientists and engineers means that we, at TSI, recount fondly how science, technology and engineering gave us inspirational opportunities to create, build and design. It was natural for us to join together to support the potential of the youth who possess this same curiosity for research and innovation as evidenced by their participation in the DC Botball Tournament. In addition to financial support, TSI's Chief Solutions Officer, Dr. Altyn Clark, is a volunteer judge in the 2011 DC Botball Tournament. In September 2011, TSI volunteers competed in the Run! Geek! Run 8k, with all benefits from the race benefiting the Equal Footing Foundation. For more information about Equal Footing, visit www.efooting.org.

Marine Toys for Tots Foundation – Literacy Program
This year, TSI is also donating funds to the Marine Toys for Tots Literacy Program. Because TSI helps military leaders achieve their challenging goals, supporting process improvement and other executive management initiatives, it was natural for us to decide to support the Marine Corps' premier community action program that invests in the leadership potential of children by promoting literacy. Supporting the Marine Corps' charitable efforts is particularly close to all our hearts because many of the engineers and process-improvement specialists who work for TSI do so with the Joint Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle Program. We were there from the first draft of the MRAP strategic plan, and continue full force now, having participated in moving more hardware faster to troops than even during World War II. We were told recently that this initiative saved almost 40,000 lives. Instead of sating the patriotic devotion among TSI's staff, we felt driven to reach out and do more to make a difference by supporting the community outreach efforts to strengthen literacy being led by Marine Toys for Tots. At the TSI Annual Banquet in November 2011, TSI employees donated over 100 new books to benefit the Toys for Tots Foundation Literacy Program. Most recently, a number of TSI employees donated their time working at the Toys for Tots Warehouse. For more information about the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, visit www.toysfortots.org.

So Others Might Eat (SOME) – Dining Room for Women and Children
In addition, in 2011 TSI is donating funds to the SOME Dining Room for Women and Children. Being a local company that takes pride in our community, we are grateful for services provided by SOME. We are delighted to support SOME's efforts to help people, especially children, transform their lives. We believe that in this important work, SOME is investing in future leaders. The TSI team believes that it is incumbent upon us to give back to our communities as an investment in a brighter tomorrow. In this case, we are reaching out with funding to support important work that is aligned with our vision of a bright future that will depend upon today's youth. A team of 38 TSI volunteers competed in the 10th annual Thanksgiving Day Trot for Hunger in Washington, D.C. with all race proceeds benefiting SOME. Most recently TSI volunteers donated their time by serving breakfast in SOME's Dining Room for the Homeless. For more information about SOME, visit www.some.org.

Feed to Lead Recognition
TSI CEO Marta Wilson was honored with the Corporate Heroine in Technology Award, which is presented by the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA NOVA) and the March of Dimes to recognize women who exemplify volunteer service and make their communities a better place to live.  Marta was selected from a group of finalists for establishing TSI's Feed to Lead Outreach Program.  In the years ahead, Feed to Lead will continue to be an important and meaningful part of TSI's mission.
